I thankfully realized I was being scammed after reading about similar accounts from this site.

Mother, "Mrs Debbie Mann" was supposedly looking for music lessons for her son, Chris. She says that he is a 16 year-old beginner but music is his dream career. *RED FLAG 1: how did she get my PERSONAL email address??

She booked 2 months of lessons after agreeing upon my lesson rate. She apologizes for her English, which is broken but still comprehensible. She says that Chris' English is perfect. She schedules no exact appointment but rather confirmed my total and said that a check was on the way to my address. 2 days later, received check in the mail was written for larger sum than discussed from company, North State Supply Inc. Check (Buffalo, NY) issued from HSBC Bank (Buffalo, NY) but mailed from Birmingham, AL, signed by "Mary Cowell." "Robert Payne" ([email protected]), caretaker of Chris, contacted me too, as he was waiting for the check. English was perfect with punctuation errors. He says that he is out of town in Alabama but wants to know as soon as the check arrives.

Many of my questions from previous emails were unanswered and more correspondence revolves around the check payment. *More red flags.

I googled this information to realize this was a scam before being asked to send the money to the caretaker via wire transfer and be scammed out of $1,700.

Whoever is working this scam has many links and preys upon caring music teachers. Don't fall for this!
