I received a scam mail on December 19, 2014 from Gateway Investment Inc. that I won 2.2 million from International consumer compensation sweepstakes and enclosed a check from Primerica Life Insurance, Duluth GA for $5,858 to cover insurance fees. The contact person was Edwin Brown (647)-706-1464, who I spoke to. He said its real check and to deposit itand call him back for the remaining checks when cleared.
Too good to be true, since my wife had an appointment in the city, I went to the non-existent address of 1567 Broadway, NY, NY.
We reviewed the letter that showed too many inconsistencies:
1. The return address is PO Box 1000/ C.P. 1000 Markham Canada and so is the postage.
2. The seal on the letter is blackened.
3. The signature of the letter printed as Robert Waterman, president: ILB, and the signature is signed Winfield.
4. Finally, I called Primerica in Georgia and they agreed that the check is a bogus check for they have no connection with The Bank of New York Mellon.
I stated my experience because i want people to be more aware and what to look for. Just be careful everyone and don't fall into the scam trap especially in this Holiday Season. I truly hope they can catch this perpetrator. This has gone too long. I read that some had already experienced this since 2012. That's too long already that they preyed on people.
