I received a letter stating that I had won $500,000.00 from Publishers Clearing House. I also received a check with the letter for $4,780.00. I took the check to the bank and they called the bank which issued the check and they said it was not valid and a scam. The bank was Oneida Savings Bank in Vernon NY. The teller stated that they would notify the police. After that I received five phone calls from the company saying why did I not want my prize money. After the fifth call I called the State Troopers. I made a statement to State Trooper Deputy Zima. He was making out his report, when the company called again and the person said he was George Washington. I handed the phone to the Trooper and he asked the caller where he lived and he said Los Vagus. Then the Deputy said I was fileing a report and that the FBI would be notified. The caller ID was Kingston Jamaia but the Deputy told me about "smart modems" so that may not have been the place the call was placed from. Thae Deputy told me to notify the Better Business Baeuro. I have now done so. I did not pay the scam any money but the phone harrassment was unpleasant. Other people might have cashed the check and then had to pay the bank back for the bad check. I hope this will help other people from being taken in by this scam. I do not want my name out there on the internet. Thank you.
