I received email communication from amazon.com advising that it would handle a seller buyer transaction and provide guarantees for seller through its amazon payments program.

I googled amazon payments and learned it was a legitimate buyer-seller service. Because I was aware of amazon.com and had a long standing relationship with the company as I purchase books for my school through its service and personal reading material for myself, I decided to purchase a used RV for 5,900 through the service and wired the funds from my bank to a bank in England.

The RV did not arrive as scheduled and the "seller" refused to respond to my queries. Two entities are responsible for this scam in addition to the "seller". Craiglist posted the ad at the same time it posted a similar ad on a scam beware ad. If craigslist were aware that these kinds of ads are fradulent, why would they knowingly publish these consumer scam ads?

The other entity is amazon.com. It is being used in a consumer scam where email addresses that lead back to amazon.com are being used to scam consumers through fake guarantees that their money is safe.

Consumers should be aware of and wary of any craigslist ad that talks about purchases through amazon payments. These ads are scams and should be disallowed by craigslist.

  • I'm not understanding why you're making a complaint against Amazon Payments, as they had absolutely nothing to do with your situation. You found a seller (who happened to be a scammer) selling an RV on craigslist.com. You then sent money to the seller through a bank wire (horrible idea to start with). Whether or not they sent a legit invoice through Amazon Payments to you is completely irrelevant, because you didn't actually send the payment through Amazon Payments, you sent it through a wire. File a complaint with craigslist.com or the seller, but Amazon Payments had absolutely nothing to do with you being scammed.
