We received a phone call from Lysco to clean our chimney, we agreed to their services due to chimney was due for cleaning. On 3/14/12 they arrived and checked chimney in house connected to the furnace. It was visible that the lining had started to crumble.They told us it was very dangerous to leave this due to fumes coming into the house and had to be fixed immediately. First we were given a price of $ 2300.00, I told Lysco tech we could not afford this. He said he could reduce price by $500.00 due to my mom being a senior citizen and another $100.00 if we did it that day because they would not have to make another visit to house also if we waited it could completely colaspe and cost us $5000.00 to fix.
I talked to my mom due to us owning the property together and also called my brother to question the price we were given. We decided to have the job done. We had to use a cash advance check from my credit card to pay because I am on disability and my mom is on a fixed income as well.I had written out the check for $1800.00 and the tech said I needed to pay more due to taxes. He then told me to make check out to him and I wouldn't have to pay tax. I was not comfortable with that and he called Lysco office and had me speak to a woman who was suppose to be his supervisor, she gave me permission to do this and said they do this all the time to save the consumers money. I did do this and made sure I photo copied the check. We later read in newspaper about chimney scam and I called police he took information and had us check chimney to see if job was done. I had my brother look inside chimney to make sure lining actually was completely inside chimney which it was. A while later we saw on channel three news this company was scamming people. I then called Armstrong Chimney Service to have them check my chimney. I was told it is a very poor job and needs to be completely replaced. Fumes are escaping through the ripples and creases caused by poor installation and cheap materials used by Lysco. I have an inspection report as well as picture of the problems with chimney from Mr. Armstrong and a proposal saying it will cost $1850.00 to re do job correctly.
