Today I ordered collagen product on a free trial after reading an article online at a cost of @2.95 for postage only. No indication was given when ordering this free trial, (I only became aware after confirmation email was received)that I was committing to further products at cost of £89.99 which they will deduct from my account every 30 days! I tried ringing the number 08081891405 numerous times - no response it just throws you into a loop without you being able to speak to anyone!!! I then emailed on the the email address given, to cancel the order: [email protected]. and received email back which says:
Dear Pure Collagen Customer,

Thank you for your email! Due to the increased volume of customer correspondence, we are not able to respond with our customary speed.

Please expect a 72 hour delay in our response. Know that your email has been received and will be responded to on a first come first serve basis.
All cancellation inquiries will be addressed and handled according to the date of the email and issued the appropriate refund according to our terms and conditions.
Finally, we kindly ask that you do not send multiple emails, as this will only slow our response time. Thank you for your patience. We look forward to addressing your email soon!

Thank you!

Pure Collagen Team

At this stage I am not confident that my order has been cancelled. I have also been taken in by a similar scam which I have detailed separately this was also in response to the same on-line advert which recommended that readers use both products together. As a result of my stupidity in being taken in by this I have now had to cancel my bank card with to prevent them from deducting further funds from my account! These companies should not be allowed to trade in such a misleading manner.

  • I agree. I have just had the identicle experience! Ordered the item this evening, received confirmation email advising me that I will be debited every 30 days. Tried phoning the 24 hour number and experienced the loop you referred to, tried emailing [email protected] and the email was rejected, TWICE. So replied to their email and had the same automated response. I have been in touch with my card company but they cannot prevent future payments being claimed, they can only act once a payment has been taken from my card. If I have to wait for that to happen I won't be particularly impressed.
If the other company that the owner of the original post refers to is REVIVAGENIX, then I can confirm that I spoke to them on the phone this evening and they promise me that no future payments will leave my account although I have to withstand the shipping cost as advertised (£2.95). Although I told them that I didn't want the free trial, they insisted that I should still receive it as I had paid for the shipping. All very odd in my humble opinion! Credit card company has confirmed that as I have authorised the payment (of the shipping costs) they cannot stop them. They can only act once the companies concerned take a second payment.

Finally, it appears that we have stumbled across the same flaming article!

  • Hi Little_Me,

Yes the other product referred to is REVIVAGENIX, Although I did manage to phone the company and spoke to a very rude male call taker who continued to speak over me as I requested the cancellation of the order, he did eventually say it would be cancelled, and I did receive an email to confirm cancellation of this product. As yet nothing has gone from my account. I suggest that you cancel your credit card immediately (if you haven't already done so) and ask for a new one to be issued. I had stupidly paid by debit card, which I have now cancelled and I will closely monitor my account.

One last thing to mention is that whilst I was in the process of completing my order online, my mobile phone rang (I was asked to provide this number during the ordering process) and the man who I spoke to said he was calling from REVIVAGENIX and said that he had noticed that I was attempting to order on-line and he asked me for my card number - which I refused to give as I said that it looked as though the order had gone through ok. He simply said 'ok' and put the phone down! This is what immediately raised my hackles as it seemed rather odd!! FYI the number he called me on was 08005460224 which when I called today to check back goes through to a 'natural health products' call centre.

  • All very odd! When I rang REVIVAGENIX, I used the phone number quoted on their screen (020 7979 7821)- a London number. I was told by the 'gentleman' that he would send me an email confirming that he had cancelled my account so I would not be debited on a monthly basis. Suffice to say that I have yet to receive this illusive email. When I explained that I was not in the financial position to afford the £88 per month for future skin care products, he replied that he could let me have them 'for the amazing value of 50% off the online deal'. He sounded really disappointed that wouldn't accept this offer!

I want to add a few links to this post as I have had a little time tonight to explore this. Firstly I will say that I only ordered the products yesterday (31.07.12) because that was the dead-line for orders and guess what, the new dead-line is TODAY WED 01.08.2012.

So, here's the link that I acted on last night: http://consumerdailyalerts.co.uk/health/skincare/2/index-rev-col.php?t202id=6157&c1=aboutUK2&c2=Bwr4&c3=gr2&c4=300x250&t202kw=

and here's another one that I found this evening, this time promoting a different pair of products but the comments are the same, in fact, the names of the people leaving the comments have changed but the comments themselves are identicle and even listed in the same order; http://www.aquaskincare.net/news_today/britain/indexb9.php?&t202kw=antiwrinkle-1-wrinkles.

    This one is similar; http://www.lifecellcream.com/?ref=41b8e615&data1=dvn&data2=aging-skin&adwords=aging-skin

and this one blowing the lid on the scam......

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2106214/Wrinkle-cream-free-trial-costs-80-month.html

Oh dear, how silly do I feel now? I fell for it hook, line and sinker.

I checked these links out too - incredible how they get away with this. Sadly, this could go on ad- infinitum as they are able to change the names of the products (and presumably the companies' names also) so readily. I have decided to also write letters of cancellation - just in case all my other 'cancellation options have not worked - and then, at least I will have my legal audit trail of cancellation. So annoyed with myself at having to spend so much of my precious time in rectifying this. I do hope that their trading actions/methods are somehow curtailed before too many poor unfortunates get strung along and taken to the cleaners!

  • Hi Disgruntled1

What bothers me now is the way reputable websites are hosting these adds. Out of curiosity, I clicked on one last night which showed a cartoon-like outline of an overweight person with an invitation to 'click here for the best/most effective diet ever'. Before clicking I had a bet with myself that this might lead to a scam. I was right - the same format that we both fell for - offer ends today, free trial, only shipment costs, you must use these TWO products together for the optimum result........

Look out for the ad, it is everywhere on the net.

Credit card has been cancelled; this will stop any future payments being taken from my account, however, as I authorised the initial payment(s), I have entered into a contract with these two companies. Cancelling the credit card may constitute a breach of this contract. If they care to pursue me for this 'crime' all I will say is that I shall log any progress on this thread.

Bring it on - I'm not the criminal here!

My guess is that they will not pursue you/us. As, if a few along the way manage to 'get away' there will be many poor unfortunates who lose £££££'s before they realise what has hit them. this must add up to ££££££k! for this/these companies! It is so sad though specially in this current worldwide financial crisis that people can be put through incredible stress in sorting out this kind of issue. It must have a massive impact on many of the victims. I am appalled that the further I read into other cases on scambook, that e.g. people who have attempted to find pain relief for chronic pain/conditions have also fallen victim to these scams. How can these companies and their employees square it with their consciences? I too will keep you posted of any further developments in my case. Suffice to say I wish you and all other fellow 'scam' victims every success (and luck in life). We are all hopefully a little wiser for our pain!

  • Hi Little_Me,

Do you have any further updates?

I have just returned from an extended weekend break to find package delivered from 'Total Body Wellness'for REVIVAGENIX Pro-Collagn Serum '. The despatch note states:' Thank you for your order. Please contact the customer service department for Total Body Wellness should you require any assistance at any time. There will be a charge on your credit card statement from Totalbodywellness.com. You may obtain your account details online by visiting wwww.totalbodywellness.com and entering your email address. or order number. As always, a customer service representative would be more than happy to assist you during regular business hours, Monday through Friday 9AM to 6PM (phone number 0121-345-9889).

Needless to say I attempted to visit the website to 'check my order', however despite there being numerous links to other websites, there was no facility to check my order with this company. I will be hanging on to this 'trial' product sent - which incidentally has a price tag of 'RRP $175.00'. I will not be posting this back as, as far as I am concerned this is my 'free trial' for which I have paid shipping costs. If they want it back they can send me the postage costs first!. The return postal address is cited as: Health Institute Distribution Services, Attn: Health and Beauty Dept. 112, Box number 10841, Clearwater, Fl 33757, USA.

As yet I have not received anything from 'Pureskincollagen.com' in the post. I await with bated breath!

  • What a coincidence! I came home from work tonight to find a brown jiffy bag which had been posted to me. My despatch Note was from Health Store and the message reads as follows;

Thank you for your order from "The Health Store". There will be a charge on your credit card statement from HEALTH STORE: www.HealthStore-Shop.com. Should you have questions or need assistance for any reason, please contact us via email at [email protected]. If you need more immediate assisstance, give us a call Monday through Friday during normal business hours, at 44-207-979-7821.

The return address label is for the same address that you have given.

I shall also be keeping my delivery for exactly the same reasons as you!

Have you opened the little box yet? I don't think I shall be trying the stuff on my face! It looks like a diddy bottle of vegetable oil with a manky looking eye dropper attached.

Dear Lord, what a fool I've been!

Reading the instructions, How the Hell do you apply a layer to wrinkles with a flaming eye dropper?

Next step - research the rather weird combination of ingredients and see if the product will make the user glow in the dark!

  • Next ingredient - Stearic Acid

Q What is Stearic Acid and why is it used?

A Stearic Acid is an essential saturated fatty acid that is found in all vegetable, seed, nut and animal oils. Although staeric acid can be from several sources, the most common source in better quality nutritional supplements is vegetable stearic acid

Tablet manufacturing requires certain substances like stearic acid to help powders flow smoothly through the tableting machines and help the tablets hold their shape.

  • Carbomer;
There aren’t a huge number of raw materials developed specifically to fulfill a need in personal care. Most things that go into your cosmetics and toiletries were originally intended for another purpose altogether and got pressed into service by formulators. But carbomer was always intended for skin products. It has subsequently been used by other industries but it was ours to begin with.

Carbomer was first launched in the nineteen fifties, rapidly became a huge hit and by the middle of the sixties no cosmetic lab would have been without a jar of the fluffy white powder. It has retained this position ever since, despite the best efforts of the company that first created it and all their competitors to try and improve on it. So what is it? It doesn’t really do it justice to just call it a thickener. There are plenty of ways to thicken something up. But carbomer not only gives you the viscosity you want, it also stabilises your formulation and gives it texture. By varying the level and the exact way you use it you can use carbomer as a base to create anything from a stiff hair gel that will stay exactly where you put it, a lotion with body but which still flows easily or a rich cream that holds it shape.

If you look at an ingredient list, if you see carbomer listed you will almost always see either sodium hydroxide or triethanolamine listed as well. These are neutralising agents used to neutralise the carbomer. Somebody in a lab somewhere will have thought through which neutralising agent at which level would suit the needs of the product best. If he or she has done their job well you should have a product whose look and feel make the product a joy to use.

  • Little_Me,

Thanks for the link I will check it out. I have not opened the bottle as interestingly it is shrink wrapped but it looks like it has been tampered with! and I certainly won't be using it!! I think the product is possibly the same one as you describe. The box looks fairly professional and is a gold/beige design with 'Rg' lettering in white within a red circle as the logo and has a lot no: 5A23LA MFG Date: 230412 Exp date: 220414. Without giving any personal info away, do you live in the UK as I do? This product may of course be a legitimate product, which is being used/marketed in an illegitimate/unscrupulous way. can you confirm any Manufacture dates/lot numbers etc on your product received so we can see if they tally as same batch etc.

    Cheers

It also notes that this is a "product of France" although it is "Distributed by The Institute for Health and Wellness LLC Clearwater Florida"

Yes, by the way, I am in the UK.

I think I should try a google search on this "Institute". Back soon....

I think that the above is potentially proof that this 'company' is using multiple names. Further research on the internet also indicates very 'similar' company names/products. This is (potentially) very widespread. Unfortunately, this experience will now make me very wary of internet shopping in the future and I have warned all of my friends also to be aware of the ease with which people can be 'mis-lead'. I am just so pleased that so far I have only lost a small amount of money. Can you imagine how much this scam makes - even if 'buyers' only pay the shipping fees? this is a very lucrative worldwide 'business'!
