Hello,

I am reporting a fraud that is probably costing Canadian consumers hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more.
The company www.livingsocial.com is selling deals that do not state what currency the deal is in so it can easily be assumed that it is in the currency where you live. Which in Canada in my particular case.

What happens then is you purchase the deal and the currency conversion happens with your credit card company. The charges that incurred below with my particular deal are an extra $120.17.

I am out that money after the company issued me a refund and now I am not sure what to do. The company is assuming no responsibility and I am sure that other people are experiencing this problem as well. If it is stated very clearly that it is US Dollars then I would not have purchased the deal. Sadly it does not. The representative that I spoke with at 11:15AM today told me very clearly that since it is a .com it can be assumed it is US dollars.
It is very frustrating as $120.17 can buy alot of things and it is a charge that I was not expecting to get.

Please let me know if I can help with this at all as I would like to somehow obtain a refund as I need that money and for this site to change so other people do not get duped. Wasting $120.17 is not a luxury I can afford.
Below are the details to the email conversation.

Thank you,
Rachel Harriman

Hello Jessica,

The currency in which this particular deal was purchased was in Canadian Dollars as clearly stated on the livingsocial page. My credit card works in Canadian dollar currency so this should not be an issue with this deal.
Unless your company was very unclear about what i was purchasing.

The loss of $120.17 was an overcharge by your company to begin with.
Who do I need to speak with at your company before I phone my credit card company to request them to get me the refund.

As well if this situation continues to go unresolved the chances I will ever purchase a deal with your company again are slim to none. I work in the media industry and this may come up in our national news in the future.

Regards,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for following up with us.
We're sorry for any confusion! Whenever you make a transaction on LivingSocial, you will be refunded in the currency with which the deal was originally purchased. For example, if you purchase one of our deals in US dollars, you will be refunded in US dollars. You can see the currency notated prior to your purchase on the deal page. Please note that the value of a refund may increase or decrease in direct correlation with current exchange rates.

For the most part, the currency is determined by the location of deal itself -- for example, a Canadian deal will be in Canadian dollars. The currency is not dictated by the location of the purchaser.

Once again, we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us, and we'll be happy to assist you further.

Thanks for LivingSocial!
