I received a letter from County Check Services stating that they had purchased a debt from Advanced America for 'goods and services'. This all sounded too strange and all wrong so I called their 888# right away thinking they had us confused with another family member with the same name. I was put into voicemail where I left a message. I wish I had googled County Check Services first before leaving a message because I would have seen that this is not a legit company but atleast I'll be prepared for them when or if they do call us. I then called Advanced America to see if they were aware of this bogus company and they are. They've received alot of calls from people complaining and/or just trying to get information. The lady I talked to was very helpful and told me to call the Federal Trade Commission and submit a complaint. This will be my next step then I'm getting ahold of my states Attorney General and file a complaint with them. She also mentioned that a 'letter' was not their normal way of contact, that they usually called and threatened over the phone. A more intimidating method, for sure. This is definitely a scam so beware.
