Enquired about a holiday villa on HomeAway.co.uk. Received a reply from the owner, quoting my original enquiry confirming there is availability. After exchanging emails, £1000 was paid to secure the booking by bank transfer. When I phoned the number on the website to confirm the booking - the real owner told me he has never heard of me. Turns out the owners email was compromised and the request was re-routed to the scammer, so from the very first moment we were dealing with the criminal and paid our money for nothing. Police and bank have been notified, no refund possible.
