Today is the second time that I have presented a personal check to Marshall's, which relies on Certegy for check approval. My check was declined because I do not have a pattern of writing checks to that company. Certegy indicated that I have no adverse records. No records allows a person to open a checking account at any bank.

If I am not allowed to write a check, I cannot establish a pattern with Marshall's because of Certegy's antiquated system.

It is embarrassing and ridiculous for a company to have a service that simply says it's trying to protect a consumer when it has no foundation that indicates the consumer needs protection. I could understand if I had signed up for identity theft protection and indicated no checks should be accepted from the bank account, but I do not have that.

Their practices are detrimental and poses a problem for consumers when there is no practical reason for it.
