I deposited a money order at the local branch of Commerce Bank in Belton, MO. on 6-16-2011 for $875.00. I waited until 6-21-11 and contacted the main branch office (816-234-2000)and spoke to
a customer representative. I inquired as to whether the deposit of $875 had cleared the bank. The customer representative told me this verbatim "it only takes24 hours for a deposit to clear and I see
it has cleared". As is the practice with my local branch,I am notified within 3 days if there is an issue with either a deposit or withdrawal. As I felt I had waited a suflicient amount of time and
received confirmation from the Commerce Bank of Kansas City representative that this money had been cleared. I transferred that amount from my personal account to my business account to pay bills. On 6-22-ll, this money order was returned to the bank and in tum, debited back to my account. I spoke with the Kansas Citybank today (6-24-ll) and they transferred me to the complaint manager in St. Louis (Ann Bronson) 314-514-6414. Her assistant spoke at length with me. I was informed the bank had no financial liability, and all they would do is provide better instructions to their customer representatives regarding how these situations should be handled. They had no financial responsibilty to me. I believe the banking institution has got the "door swinging both ways". They can charge an overdraft fee even if funds are made available the same day as a debit comes in, but they in tum have no responsibilty for misrepresenting information vital to their customers financial health. This needs to be changed! I have been a customer of Commerce Bank for many years. As they are insured by the FDIC, they do have some responsibilty for their
misdeeds.
Please be advised that the issues described in this complaint will be shared wittr the financial institution or company in question.

Also, Commerce Bank held no responsibility for an unsigned check I had written. Aren't the banks supposed to check this out before processing?
