I bought an Oreck xl Edge from Sears seven months ago. Apparently I sucked up a peice of tin foil, which is weird I don't even use tin foil, its like the last thing i would expect to find on my floor, but it blew out the main circut board. The repair person at circle sewing center midland michigan said it was not coverd by the warrenty. not a manufacters defect.and that i should have picked all those things up before i vacumed... Really, isnt that what a vacume is for. nowwhere on the box does it have a disclamer that says it is only safe to pick up dirt and dust.
on the box it states 7 year warrenty. and the repair person says that most warrenty repairs are found in the first month, there fore she did'nt think this was a warrentable issue. it also states in the owners manual that the motor is supposed to shut down to avoid damage. Is Oreck my Ememy here or the repair place. Do these people get kick backs if they have fewer warrenty issues. Circle sewing center also sells oreck vacumes. I bought mine at sears be forwarrned oreck does not stand behind their products.

  • If Sears did not handle your problem to your satisfaction, I would then call or write the Oreck company (keep copies of all your communicatiom). I would speak with a supervisor if possible and explain the issue. Usually the store will take a product back within 30 days if there is an issue, after that you usually have to go straight to the manufacturer. They have to stand by their written warranty unless there is a disclaimer about foreign objects destroying some portion of the vacuum, which to them might be considered negligence. I would follow a phone call to customer service with a letter, giving names, dates of persons spoken to, the gist of the conversation, etc. I would close the letter reminding them of their obligation because of the warranty. If they tell you to return your vacuum to the store, tell them you need something in writing authorizing you to do that. If they tell you to send it back to them, make sure you insure it for the replacement value and keep your tracing information. I hope this helps.
