My husband received a call in August 2012 from someone about magazines. He is 77 and says the person talked very fast, gave lots of information, but that he thought he was signing up for magazines for 59.95, a one-time charge. When the charges started hitting our checking account, I called Sunset Publications to cancel the subscription but was told it was past the 30-day cancellation period and they had the agreement to pay for the three-year period on tape. They would be glad to play the tape for me, but I had to agree to not try to record it. They also said we had to pay as agreed or we would be turned into collections. Even talking to the supervisor was not helpful. Actually both women I walked with were very rude and continually talked over me and raised their voices. I told them I would stop payment at my bank and would not be paying so to stop shipment of any magazines, which I had not started to receive, but my checking account had actually been charged $349.70 by this point. Has anyone had any success with stopping this?
