My husband was offered a position with kirby two weeks ago. He was told he would be making $400 a week minimum. They would set up 15 appointments for him to go out and demonstrate what the vacuum can do to potential customers. they said for each vacuum sold he would receive an additional $200 commission. the company sent him to places in south west philadelphia (about an hour drive) and did not pay for gas at all. He spent over $200 in gas in the two weeks he worked. He went to work everyday and sat in the customer waiting room anticipating an appointment. The first two days, the company only set up two appointments for him to go to. The rest of the two weeks were pretty much the same. we later found out that not only he would not be paid for each sale, that the deal was his $400 base pay OR $200 for each vacuum sold. There was only maybe 5 appointments made for him each week. Mind you, the vacuum costs over $2000 and they were sending him to places that people were on food stamps. To top it off, he called about when he should pick up his paycheck and they told him he was not getting paid ANYTHING. their reasoning was that he didnt do 15 demos in a week so he wouldnt be paid a dime. the "15 demos a week minimum to be paid" was never disclosed to begin with. The company wasnt even able to provide 15 demos for him each week as promised. He was more than willing, but was not provided the 15 opportunities each week. He went to work everyday and wasted over 40 hrs a week and $100 a week in gas for nothing. We are now out over $1000. Two weeks of pay, gas, and wear and tear on his car with all the miles he has to travel.
