I remember getting a phone call that started out as being a $50 gas card and magazine subscriptions for only $3.95 a month. After I agreed to this I was transferred to a confirmation sales agent. I was then told that the subscription was for like 60 months and that I would be charged $67 something a month for 12 months at which point I disagreed and said cancel this whole thing. At that time they lowered the cost to $34.50 for 12 months. I still disagreed. I found out today that I was charged $34.50 in October and then the same this month. I called my credit card company and they said since I gave out my number I should call the merchant that charged me. I called smart shoppers and complained about being charged when I said I did not want any part of this. They said I agreed fully and that the call was recorded. I asked to hear the recording. After waiting 5 minutes to hear it I was hung up on. When I called back they made me wait another 5 minutes to hear it. The recording they played me was digitally edited. At one point when I said OK they copied it. They deleted any disagreement I said and replaced it with the OK. I got so mad and when I accused them of editing my call they said they didn't have the ability to do that. Any simple sound editing program could easily edit a phone recording. I blew up screaming about calling my credit card company and making sure they will never receive another penny from me and hung up. Someone called me back 15 minutes later and said my account was cancelled and I would have any payments returned. We'll see if I get any of my money back.
