I placed an order for 15 bottles of wine from WSJ Wine Club for $90 on Oct 21st 2012. I believed this to be a one time purchase. I searched in vain for any kind of continuing club membership or regular shipments of wine. However on Oct 11th 2013 I found that my credit card was billed for $181.88 by a company called Continuity Subscription Merchants. I had never heard of this company before. I checked them out online and discovered that others has also received bills from this company for items they had not ordered. I contacted my credit card company - Capital One Bank - and got them to agree to cancel the charge based on the information I gave them about Continuity Subscription Merchants and their questionable business practices.. To date (Jan 20 2013) I have not received the credit. Subsequently a box of wine bottles was left on my doorstep by Fedex who did not get a signature from anyone in the house. I emailed WSJ Wine Club and advised them I had not ordered these wines and for them to arrange collection from my house. WSJ Wine have agreed to do that and to cancel my 'club account' which I didn't know I had. My concern is that that the Wall Street Journal has connected it's good name and prestige with an organization that clearly uses questionable business practices to scam people into signing up for a subscription to a wine club when they believed they were simply buying a one time shipment of wines.
