PLEASE READ: I suppose my story is similar to the rest but I want to mention several things others did not. I received my call in the first week of December and I was told I could get 5 magazines for like a year and a half for around $16 a month payments and was promised a $1000 gift card to Wal-Mart that was to be shipped to me after my first payment. So I gave them my debt card number and my info and then was told that the guy helping me was new and I was being transferred to a supervisor to make sure he had done everything correctly and to complete the process. The supervisor goes through the whole process again but then tells me that it would cost me around $16 a month but that I was required to make payments every month that were around $68 dollars which was 4 months worth of payment in order to pay the magazines off quickly but would keep receiving magazines long after they were paid off. I told the woman that I could not afford to pay that much and said that I changed my mind and wanted to cancel the whole thing. The woman was very persistent and said she could lower the monthly payment but advised against it as it would take longer to pay off. She offered to take a month off and said the monthly payments would now be $49.80 and that was the best she could offer. Mind you I had repeatedly told them throughout the phone call that I was in a hurry and this was a bad time because I was right in the middle of moving and that a different day would be better for me. However I guess you can say I got sucked in because I really believed I would get the Wal-Mart gift card so I went through with it and agreed. I asked for a number I could call in case I changed my mind or wanted to cancel. I was given a number and the conversation ended. I decided I wanted to cancel and tried calling the company a couple days later and the number was not a valid number. I was pissed so I called my bank and explained the situation and the recommended I cancel my debit card and the would send me a new one. I didn't hear anything or receive any mail from the company until January. I received a letter dated 1/9/13 stating that my debit card would be charged on 1/20/13. This letter had a number on it that was different from the first number I was given so I called and this number was not a valid number either. About a week later I start receiving phone calls from the company from yet another number. I inform the woman that calls that I do not want the magazines and that I want the whole deal cancelled she rudely tells me that if I had wanted to cancel I should have returned the portion of my letter that was a cancellation form. I told her that I never received any kind of cancellation form and that I was verbally telling her I wanted it canceled from this point on. The woman told me that was not an option because they had me on tape agreeing to their terms. I reminded her that I was given a number and had tired to call and cancel withing 2 days of said phone call but could not because the phone number was invalid. The woman became angry and repeated that I had to pay them so I responded back rudely no I do not because this is all a scam. The woman told me that I would be sent to a collection agency and charged three times the original amount and then hung up on me. I received between 3 and 4 calls a day after this initial call and after about a week of this I answered and this phone call went almost exactly as the other had. At this point I have changed my number and am not sure what to do...
