International boundaries

This man contacted me on a dating web site.
We have talked back and forth for about a month
he is a very sweet. I have had a feeling of this is not right. He tells me he is going to the Philippines because his father has left him a 120 gold bars..which he had to go and collect.
He wants to come see me I live in Fla. He wants to come this Monday (which will never happen)
He is to be selling some of the gold on Friday which he has said he needs to find a safe bank to put the money in and then have it transfered. I did some research and found his image on google as a scammer. He has sent me a few other pictures. I also put his phone # in and found he is in Michigan.
What I have read is that he will be contacting and asking for money because he has been robbed or something. I would like this man caught for what he is doing. How can this be done...what do I need to do so we can stop him.

  • This is the typical "nigerian scam" scenario. "Ben" isn't even a real identity and no matter where the phone number is from, that doesn't tell you where the person really is.(a cell phone can have any area code no matter where it really is) I can almost guarantee it's someone overseas (in fact, probably an entire team of scammers)in Nigeria or Jamaica usually. They will develop a story and string you along. Then they send you a fake check to deposit. You draw out funds and wire it to them. Then, a while later you find out the check is no good and you're screwed. There are literally thousands of variations of this scam and thousands of ways they do it but it always involves sending you a check, and you wiring money.

  • oh, and I'm afraid there's really no way to catch these people and no recourse if you fall for it. They are outside of U.S. jurasdiction. There's really nothing you can do except don't fall for it. Actually catching someone isn't going to happen.
