DTE Gas cracked basement walls and face brick while backfilling excavation to repair leaking gas line. They used heavy duty excavationg equipment to compact the frozen earth for backfill. The whole house shook. Dishes in the cupboards on the opposite side of house rattled. Seen damage to walls and brick are estimated at $3000. Unseen potential damage to exterior moat drain tiles can't be evaluated without excavation and inspection. Contractors have said wall damage needs to be repaired immediately or we will have water in the basement as soon as spring rains start and potential water leakage thru the floor when the water table rises. DTE has informed me that they will not cover the damages. Try my homeowners insurance. Homeowners has a clause where they don't cover damages due to compacting. Home owners suggest to continue to pursue damage collection from DTE. I am an 82 year old widow living on retirement benifits and I do not feel that I should pay for damages done by DTE. The damage has to be fixed now!! What course of action can be pursued?
