Contacted by phone, caller id Richard, K 413-553-0746, male sayign he was with Central Periodical services questioning if I had received my free voucher. I had no idea what he was talking about. I then thought this a magazine company that was tied to another promotion through USA Benefits. I had cancelled all of that when I had received a letter saying I was going to be charged $39.95 a month. I told this subject that I had cancelled all of that promotion through the 800 numbers that had been provided through initial contact. Subject wanted by age to verify who I was. I refused to give any personal information over the phone. I demanded that all information and whatever they had be cancelled immediately. He then told me that if I did not co-operate and give him my correct age that he had no choice but to renew my account for another 5 years. I told him 'oh no you won't.' and asked to speak to a manager. The manager, a female. came on the line. I told her that the subject had threatened me with another 5 year contract. She informed me that that wasn't a threat. I demanded that whatever they had be cancelled immediately. She responded the she could cancel any renewals but that I would be billed $49.95 per month through September 2013. I have never received anything from this company nor do I have any magazine subscritpions. I told this to the female. Her response was that their shipping department had been running behind and that I would be receiving information in 3 to 5 business days.
This is a FRAUD. I had asked the male I had had on phone first for a 800 number. He gave 888-299-7302. If you call this number, it does not identify as Central Periodical Services. It gives 3 options which 1 is customer service, and 3 is to request you be taken off the calling list. If you try option 1, it gives business hours and that they are EST, then strates they are closed. This is a TOTAL rip off.

  • My husband was a victim of this scam. I cancelled his card----But I research businesses for a LIVING, so here is my advice to all of you, based on what I did. I cancelled the card IMMEDIATELY and filed a dispute with my bank, and ONLINE I contacted and filed complaints with all three agencies. The Better Business Bureau, the Ohio Attorney General, and the FTC.gov. Then Central Periodicals, when they realized our card was cancelled, they sent us a letter telling us to pay $1,440.00 for the entire subscription. I was furious. Thats when I wrote them a CEASE AND DESIST LETTER, via email at [email protected], telling them to STOP CONTACTING ME and informing them I contacted the three agencies above. I also sent them a copy of the email replies sent to me from the Ohio Attorney general, BBB and FTC all telling me in the letter that they were going to investigate Central Periodical. Three days later we got a letter from Central Periodical telling us "pursuant to your request, we cancelled your subscription and your balance is $0". So I suggest to ALL OF YOU, contact your state's Attorney General. Go to the bbb.org, (better business bureau) and also contact the ftc.gov and inform them of this SCAM! Also send the company at [email protected] a copy of your complaints filed. They will leave you alone after that! I PROMISE!
