I had Cool Ducts come out to my home to clean my air conditioning unit. After they checked the unit they started to put on masks and claimed that i had black mold in my unit. They were quite convincing! They immediatly put on masks and the manager began to tell me that he had mold poisoning. He told me a huge story about his health being comprimised and how different organs in his body were failing, lost his insurance, will have a shortened life, etc. Being disabled myself I totally believed what he was telling me. He then told me i needed infra-red lights in my unit that would kill the mold. Sounded good to me, there are definitely those type of units as I began to research while they were at my home. I found the product on website for that brand name. There were no prices on the units (later to find out that they owned the company that manufacturers the units). They then told me it was going to be $4200. I felt my life was in immediate danger with black mold and fell prey to the scam and signed paperwork for a loan for the product.
They immediately installed the unit and that was the end of them. A few days later I was telling my friend about the purchase. He quickly called his friend who does air-conditioning and asked him to come over. After inspecting my unit he said it was not mold it was dust build up that totally impacted the coils. I then paid him to have the coils cleaned. He looked at the two infrared units that were installed and said he would have charged $800 for both units as his price for the same brand would be $40 & $365. I was furious. I contacted the company and told them i wanted them to remove the units and of course they had my signed loan and refused. I then contacted another air conditioning specialist and they said their cost was a little of $400 and they would have charged me under $900.
I hve been ripped off and would like to get restitution. I currently am not paying on the loan as I am disgruntled. It of course, is ruining my credit. HELP!!
