This was a scam worked in two parts against my mother. Step one, she received a phone call stating they were from Microsoft on April 3rd, 2013 and that her computer was at critical risk. For the low price of $299.00, they would give her software to protect her current pc and every computer she would own in the future. They had her install their own World Pc solutions software.
She received a new call on April 26th, stating that the company she originally dealt with was being investigated for fraud but they were calling her to 'refund her money'. They requested her bank account details so that they could send her money directly via Western Union. They also had her install Teamviewer 8. This program gave them remote access to her computer. She was told her funds would be transferring from India so when the bank 'called', just say it is okay to avoid international transfer fees. In less then 1 hour, her accounts were wiped clean.
