I am a long time Airbnb user, and have exceptional reviews as a guest. Cynthia WHITE (NY listing) tried very hard to improve our stay, but unfortunately it was a DISASTER :

- A distinct smell of gas, my wife felt quite ill from staying there
- Cynthia keeps a pet and as such the furniture smells strongly of dog urine
- The building is pre-war and had 6 days without hot water
- Cynthia did try to address these issues (e.g. got us a hotel for a couple of nights and sent her friend over to clean), but it was all half measures, and the issues remained unsolved, so we had to leave after 1 week and find a costly hotel
- Cynthia refused to refund any of the remaining funds for 3 weeks unused, despite sub-letting a second time
- I was misled by both Airbnb and Cynthia about the host obligations and dispute process, so we were left out of pocket
- Airbnb as usual sided with the host, and upheld Cynthia's decline of the refund request. To my knowledge they ignored key facts, ignored their own terms and conditions and host obligations, and refused to send a case worker to address the issue.

Cynthia is very responsive and is very nice, but sometimes things go wrong, and they were not dealt with. Airbnb didn't help. While other people had a great experience, I would recommend steering well clear of this apartment. If anything goes wrong, you're pretty much on your own.
