seller tried to sell iPhone 64GB on gumtree australia and said will pay all shipping and postage required and full refund if need be. Once I asked about it the ad was removed and he was very eager to sell me the phone. Once i have given him where to post the iphone, he sent through a dodgy looking "amazon fps invoice" to which I needed to 'wire transfer' to an overseas account in bulgaria. Not to amazon. I am in austrlaia so therefore, I did not like the sound of that. I did some research and found that amazon do not require wire transfers but they also do not allow australian users. I let him know this and asked for a pay pal account info and he said he didn't have one. i then asked for more info to verify him as being legitimate and he replied with "(Inappropriate Content Removed)" to which i was not surprised/

  • This person recently used the email address '[email protected]' on an AU Gumtree ad: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/sydney-city/mobile-phones/iphone-4s-64-gb-brand-new/1027663353#

This person attempted to convince me to send money to an Amazon bank account (used to "secure" my payment before I received the phone) from which I could also obtain a refund if I wasn't happy. I have seen no such service from Amazon, however this link smells similar: https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/helpTab/Personal-Accounts/Sending-Receiving-Money/Requesting-Money-Online

Either way, Amazon clearly state that refunds from Amazon are NOT provided when sending money on-line: https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/helpTab/Personal-Accounts/Privacy-Security/Internet-Scams-and-Phishing

    And I quote:
"DO NOT send money--by cash, wire transfer, Western Union, PayPal, MoneyGram or other means, including by Amazon Payments--to a seller who claims that Amazon or Amazon Payments will guarantee the transaction, refund your funds if you are not satisfied with the purchase, or hold your funds in escrow."

    Regards,
    Simon
