Man with strong Indian accent called me 3p.m. Sat 01 Oct. to say that he was from Windows technical support in London, and that my computer had been flagged up as generating malicious programs because my SSL (?Software Security Layer?) had expired, also the Warranty, and I had got various errors in the computer, and had not sent any Error Messages when I encountered them. I was suspicious, but because they said they were from Windows I listened to what they said. The first man called himself Alan, and then I asked to speak to his Supervisor because I was suspicious, and spoke to a Stephen Jones, who also had a strong Indian accent. He guided me through a series of actions on my computer, which did clearly show there had been several errors etc, (and my computer had been running slow, and I had lost broadband three times in the past few days) - then of course he directed me to a website called I think, AMMYY, where he suggested that to put things right I should renew the warranty etc. There were three options, at different prices (all in dollars), and of course he recommended the most expensive! I think it was for about $170. I did type my credit card no. in, but did not click on 'send', as I was very unhapppy by this time, and phoned a friend who is more expert on computers than I am, and he said "It's a scam, put the phone down immediately". So I did. But I am worried that somehow these people have got into secure details of my bank account, as I used to do internet banking, but don't any more since Alliance & Leicester changed to Santander.

Apart from strong Indian accents, and also very strange use of English at times, they sounded plausible, and I had not heard a word about this scam until I spoke to my friend! Since then I have of course checked on a website and found that this has been doing the rounds for over a year! Can't understand why I have not been warned about it by the real Windows, or my ISP!
