On June 3 at 7:14 p.m. ET I have made an internet purchase for weight-loss pills that was advertised at garciniacambogia.com and other sites. The website advertised 3 bottles of Garcinia Cambogia Plus 2 free bottles for $19.99 each. (I have printed the web ad). When I gave my Visa card number for the purchase, there was no chance to overlook and approve but immediately submit and confirm on the same logo, without [email protected] the final charge. However, the final amount came out as $159.00 for the purchase. I immediately called the phone number of the company to cancel the purchase but they said that it was already processed. There was also an ad on the website saying "100% Money back guarantee".
I sent 2 emails 45 minutes after the order trying to cancel the order and made again repeated calls to cancel the order, which the company denied. I then called my Visa card representatives and asked them to remove the authorization (the charge was not posted until 2 days after the purchase, on June 5).
The company - Garcinia Cambogia -- would not allow me to cancel the order but I was told that after receiving I can return the merchandise at my expense and my card will be charged for a $5.99 restocking fee for each of the 5 bottles, although 2 of them they sent me " for free".
5 days after my purchase the package arrived to my home. I called the company and asked for a Return Authorization number. The representative, "Dorothy", was rude and was very unwilling to give me a number, instead, offered a 30% discount for keeping the product. (There is a hidden agenda to keep the products, which was not evident at the beginning: apparently it allows the company to keep charging one’s credit card monthly for a fee of $9 and change for online nutritional advise...)
When I declined for the discount, then she finally gave me a number while listing all the negatives: restocking fees, if the product doesn't arrive withing 30 days of the original purchase they will not reimburse me, etc.
I asked for an official Return Authorization Number via emai, but she refused and only gave me a number orally - a practice I never experienced in my life with any businesses.
The whole practice seems like a scan ans as Attorney General you should look into.
I am more than willing to submit all transcripts of emails with dates as well as copies of the company’s fradulent advertisements which I have printed out.
