We rented a car from Budget Rental from May 26, 2013 to June 1, 2013. It smelled horribly of smoke. Upon returning the car June 1st, we asked if they had non smoking cars and were told that all of the cars were to be non smoking. We were given a $40.00 discount at that time, since the car was smokey. On June 17th, 2013, we received a notice from the Budget Operations Team that the credit card we used for rental would be charged $250.00 for cleaning services since the car had a smoke odor in the interior. I called the Customer Care team as directed in the letter, was told by one representative that pictures were taken and ashes were on the floor. I told her that neither my husband or I smoked and no one else had ridden in the car. Furthermore, we had complained when we brought the car back and had received a discount due to the smoke odor. This representative hung up on me. I called a second representative who said it wasn't charged as yet, but wouldn't intervene in the charge processing. I called Billing, who said they couldn't do anything about it. I was given the numbers of the supervisor and airport manager. Messages were left at both numbers with no return calls. As a result of this fiasco, we closed out the credit card and will be issued a new card. The credit card company did say that Budget could choose to send us bills for the cost anyhow. We have referred this matter to our lawyer because there obviously was a mistake to begin with and nobody would help to rectify the situation. Please help to ensure that no one else has to undergo what we went through. Thank you very much.
