In 2007 we brought out boat to California and registered in the DMV. In 2009, we went re-registered the boat again. In 2010, we received numerous bills from the County going back to 2007 for unsecured taxes. We contacted Ms. Salas and she was going to speak to her boss about the back taxes. Appears the DMV did not report the boat until 2010, therefore, all back taxes are now due. They already had penalties for each year. We have made several calls and left several messages for Ms. Salas (name on the bills). Now we have received a letter from Ms. Salas stating in default and will not be able to register the boat until all taxes are paid. We received the DMR registration and it also says "unable" to register until all taxes are paid per the County. I do not understand why we have to pay when it was the DMV's fault not ours. And if we would of known about this unsecured tax when we went to register in California, we would of left the boat in Arizona. I am so frustrated as many others in this deflating economy. Seems like since County, State and Government is in need to cover their expenses, wages, and bonuses, they are looking at all their books and billing the poor tax payers and demanding the money now.
