Genesis IT and Telecommunications is a business that 'sells' phones, cameras, laptops and musical equipment (genesisitlimited.com). I brought a Roland Synth from them for $1440 and after sending the money the chap requested I cancel the transaction and change it to another account. I immediately became suspicious and went to the bank and reported the story so far and my suspicions. They wouldn't really comment on whether they thought it was a scam or not, but agreed to do all they could to cancel the transaction or withdraw the money from that account. Today (07/23/2013) I received a call saying the money had been removed from the account. I won't get it back...
However between the time I went to the bank and reported it and today, many more things happened. I pretended not to suspect dodgy dealings and continued emailing the bloke in hope I wouldn't tip him off that I knew he was a crook so he wouldn't take the money out of that account (yeah right), and he rang us a few more times too (strong Asian accent, but pretty good at english).
Finally he reported he had sent the item (just forget about the fact he wanted me to change the money to a different bank account a couple days previously for no apparent reason) via air-pace logistics. I checked up on this company (their website immeiately made me suspicious...they use pictures of Toll ships and passenger airliners on it) and found it to be another set-up.
Shortly after this the man sent another email saying the shipping company had requested him to inform us that the item was being held in customs and we would have to pay another fee for its release. He asked me to pay this to another bank account. I immediately questioned this, saying I had bought things internationally prior to this, and it was the Australian customs that sent us the request for that payment (after I received the item), definitely not the shipping company and most certainly not the supplier of the item. He excused it away with something about the shipping company wanting him to inform us and it wasn't his problem or something. He also said he would tell the shipping company would get into touch with us if thats what we wanted. They never did, but I still pretended to act as thick as custard as though I never suspected anything...then I pretty muched just stopped replying as I was sick of the bloke and had given up hope the bank would recover our money.
In the mean time, I opened a gmx email account and used a different name to pretend to purchase a camera from them for a joke. I was very uncooperative when he tried to make me send the money to yet another account, so he said I could do it by Western Union. I refused this too, so he gave me a NAB account to send the money to (BSB no. showed it was a Blacktown, NSW branch). I told a few lies about how my job didn't give me much time to visit a bank for something like that, and he would have to allow me to pay via Paypal. He just said simply..."We do not accept payment by Paypal." I replied saying the only reason he wouldn't accept Paypal would be because he was dealing illegally, and he would have to set up a Paypal account or I would pay. Two days later I was told to pay via Paypal to the following email address: [email protected]
I reported this last bit to Paypal, and haven't heard back yet.
As for Mr Genesis...he's waiting for me to confirm payment. He could be waiting a long time...
