Similar story to lots of others on here. Said he was Henry Backer, had a business, ISICO oil and gas, which has a website and his LinkedIn page. We only chatted for 2 weeks and never got to the point where he asked for money. But I became very suspicious as so many little things didn't add up. Any one of them by themselves wouldn't arouse suspicion but as they started to accumulate they made me concerned enough to check deeper. I am grateful for people loading their scams on sites like this because as soon as I read them I could see a pattern in what he was telling me. Same old story, had to go on an emergency contract to his south African mining contract so we couldn't meet. Couldn't get the video link to work for us to speak face to face while he was away. Called me on the phone several times, promising me to buy a house for us cash for £1.5 million when the contract finished and he was paid. That made me stop and evaluate the story. If someone was a Christian and God had blessed them with that kind of money, would they give it to someone they had never met???? His profile on CM said he lived in Bristol England and went to ICC church in Bristol, none of which was true. By his own admission, he said he lived in Florida and New York and just wanted to retire to Bristol England in the next few weeks and start going to that church. He said he had completed the profile like that because he wanted someone to be his wife in Bristol Engalnd as quickly as possible and he was so grateful God had brought us together. I asked which hotel he stayed in Bristol while he was looking for the property he was supposedly buying for us. He told me it was the Bristol Harbour Inn, and how lovely it was, how much I would like it when I met him there at the weekend. Not surprisingly we weren't able to meet as he had to rush back to his company where there was a problem. When I checked the hotel out, intending to phone and ask whether he had ever stayed ther, I found it was actually in Rhode Island New York!

We have to face facts, we wouldn't be on dating websites if we weren't lonely and looking for a Christian husband. That makes us vulnerable. In addition, most of us will have prayed for many years without an answer. We believe in a God who performs miracles, and know that we need one! So that makes us vulnerable to any scam which appears to be a miraculous answer to prayer. Don't know how we avoid that risk, other than to be very careful. I have left CM, as the majority of matches went to church on special ocassions and wanted to be James Bond. The few that I did chat with all turned out to be false. The site clearly states that it does not do profile checks on its members, so it's up to us to decide whether we want to play thhe game. I don't.

  • He's still at it via CM! Goes as Richard Green now, (still as gosmiles!) still at 'Isico Oil and Gas' - based at Huntington Station, NY - uses photos that he has 'borrowed' from a very handsome professional photographer from Italy (Bruno T). Says he never works on a Sunday. Professes undying love in very strangely constructed sentences - says he speaks English, German and Austrian. Says he's US born but brought up in Austria - went to Stuttgart Uni - geologist - mining and oil expert, 'into fracking'. Says he divorced 12 years ago, and that he lost the love of his life to cancer over 3 years ago - they were together for 3 years, so he calls himself 'widowed', though they were never married! He 'moves around' with work - UK, US, South Africa. While in SA and in contact with me, there was an 'accident', 2 local workers were killed, 4 were critically injured, followed by fund-raising by his 'best friends' Nelson and Carlos. Things weren't adding up for me, on further research, I found the same photos with him 'scamming' back to 1998, from Germany, South Africa, Nigeria, US and UK that I know of. He also goes as Benny Smith (as well as Henry Backer)and most recently Arnold Nicholas. He is a real charmer, but he trips himself up by his lack of 'joining up the dots'. Just don't be fooled, sometimes he chooses to have a young daughter that lives with him, just to milk your sympathy/kindness. Avoid him at all cost - CM say they can't screen these individuals out - just be extra vigilant, if they sound too good to be true, sadly, they probably are! I had a very lucky escape thanks to him being exposed on various scamming sites. Thank you
