On June 29 my husband and I attended meeting after receiving an American Airlines free ticket offer and "qualifying" to attend. Once we arrived we were told that we couldn't sit in on the presentation because we didn't have a major credit card. However, we were still given the information to receive our free tickets. On July 2 I mailed the registration validation form along with $9.95 S & H fee. I soon received communication dated July 8 with my "activation cards" which had to be completed within 30 days of receipt. On Aug. 8 I mailed the (2) Round Trip Airfare Vacation Activation Information along with $70 activation fee ($35 per person). The offer included $50 dining card and a 50% car rental and 3 days luxury hotel accommodations in "one of over 45 popular destinations". I then received an Order Acknowledgement and Option form dated August 6. This form said I needed to indicate whether I wanted to keep my Class C Promotion (2 R/T Airline tickets in the continental US with various restrictions). They have you sign indicating that you understand and acknowledge that your choice is final and cannot be changed once made and that you understand and agree to the terms of the offer. The other option was Class A (Buy one get one free companion Air Ticket with somewhat less restrictions.) If you choose Class A, no action necessary and you will receive your 2 Round Trip Air within 15 "business" days of the date of the letter (Aug 6). So on Aug 21 (11 business days, 13 if I count Saturday), I signed and faxed the form indicating that I wanted to keep Class C. On Aug 26, I receive in an envelope with no date stamp - a letter dated Aug 20 as my Order Acknowledge & Receipt. Of course it is for the Class A selection (BOGO). Here's what I receive: 1) Take off for 2 from Grand Incentives - Min fare of destination must be $349 during low season and $379 during high season. Expires 6/30/2014.
2.) $50 hotel/restaurant card - $9.95 S & H payable to Passport to Value
3.)Receive "up to 50% discount" on car rental. To receive activation pin#, send $4.95 S & H along with certificate payable to Passport to Value - valid one year from date of registration. 4.) 3 days & 2 nights vacation - This forms provides the locations and stipulations. Must mail in $50 refundable reservation guarantee (refunded after travel) to Trips Incentives and is valid one year from date of issue (handwritten 8/27/13). Problem: major bank credit card required - no debit cards. Back to square one - we don't own credit cards!!
I left a message today asking for a refund of my $70 and told them I would be following up via e-mail. I'll let you know what happens...
