They had contacted me for an ad I posted on craigslist advertising for my services as a voice teacher (no longer going to post there). Luckily I knew this was fishy prior to doing anything with the check they have sent (I will have to check at work as to whether I received the actual payment). I also received text from them 8/31 from the number 575-618-3668 (which is where I got the Anthony, NM from the area code...since the vocal lessons location was to be in Cleveland, Ohio). Here are all the email correspondence (excluding my personal info):

Hello--

I have two options for taking lessons location wise. I can either teach her at my home in Parma, or I could also teach her at Tri-C metro (downtown campus) since you mentioned working in the city. My home schedule is preferably Mon or Wed afternoon/evenings or Tri-C would be Thurs or Fri afternoons. Let me know what day, location, and time preferences works for you and we can nail down a time. I think the best bet would be for her to meet me at my college location. I have yet to get my home piano tuned, and I have a better set-up with less distraction there. My fee is $40/an hour...so if you are looking for 4- one hour lessons in a month that would be ($160), but if you would like it to be twice a week for a month then it would be ($320). I will have to get back to you tomorrow or Tues about my exact availability since I have a couple more of my college students that I need to schedule. Thank you and I will get back to you in the next couple of days (first couple days of the semester are a little hectic so I will try to get back to you asap).

deposit into your bank account and it will take just 1 or 2 days to
clear, when the check clears i want you to deduct your own money for
the tutor lesson for my Daughter for 1 month and extra $100 Stress
factor (Gas fee) and get the rest money send to the nanny information
below via Money Gram and get back to me with Money gram transfer
details on the receipt... So that nanny and my daughter can relocate
to your location for the tutor lesson for my daughter...Kindly get
things done as soon as you receive the check and have the nanny fund
send out immediately...
