I should've read up on this process before I got started...but oh well.

I started with a Google search for short term personal loans and landed at 100dayloans.com. I submitted an application, and got over 100 emails.

I was contacted this morning by multiple "lenders." The first was Cash Quick Online (847-558-4166). They said I was approved for $5000 and needed to prove I could pay the $250 per month by loading it on a Green Dot Money Pak. I did as they asked. When I called them back, they said I needed to purchase insurance in case I didn't pay on time for $350. I asked them to just take it out of the money they are loaning. They refused and insisted I get another Money Pak card. I got in my car, and thought about it, but never got the card.

The representatives kept referencing their so-called loan officer, George Cardona. I asked to speak to him. He explained why the insurance was going to be necessary, and I simply told him I didn't have it. He yelled at me, threatened to have my accounts frozen, and charge me with theft. Then hung up in my face.

Seconds later, I got a call from Roger at USA Payday Loans and I explained to him that I just got scammed and I'm not interested in any upfront payments of any kind. He told me he hears that all the time, and assured me that there would not be any fees. He was nice, and took down the phone number from the Cash Quick guys and said his attorneys could help me get my $250 back. Then he forwarded me to the Personal Loan Dept.

Once we are finalizing the application, the new representative told me there would be $501 in bank transfer fees that I would be responsible for paying up front. I was blown away! I told him I had nothing, and unless they can deduct it from the loan itself, I'm not paying anything.

For a minute I entertained borrowing a smaller amount so that the fee would be less. I even entertained giving them by Bank of America account info because transferring within the same bank has no fees...but instead they insisted that I purchase some other money card and pay the fees that way.

I told them to cancel my application.

Minutes later, Roger called back trying to talk me into sending the money. By then, I was in tears. It had hit me that I was scammed. I thought I was smarter than that (as we all feel) and now I'm in a worse position than when I started.

I'm putting fraud alerts on my credit files now, and gonna try and beg my bank for mercy. Hopefully I can change my account numbers and try and walk away as clean as possible.

The USA phone number is now...818-813-9130. I spoke to Roger and Naga.

I still can't believe "I got bit by a shark today." :-(
