I was contacted on 10/23/13 by a lady who was supposedly from some federal unit in Chicago. She stated I wrote a check for 805.15 in 2005 which was never paid. She stated if I didn't come up with the money within 4 hours a warrant would be issued for my arrest. Even had someone call me with the same number used for the police department. Of course like everyone else I paid 805.15 and they wanted payment set up for the additional 999.00. I set the payments up on my debit card and it was lost. So of course it was canceled. They then proceeded to charge my work credit without authorization. I have since filed a claim with the credit card company but this is terrible. 1st I thought it was illegal for a bill collector to threaten you over the phone and 2nd how can some charge money to your card without authorization. What can we do??
