I used a payphone in Portland that was advertised as being .50 for local calls. No other rate information was visible, no other information was provided. When I swiped my card, I was authorizing a .50 charge. They charged me $15.40 without warning and certainly without permission. No one in their right mind would pay that amount for a 30 second phone call. No one.
I spoke with WMACTL "customer service"...they initially offered a 25% reduction, when I pushed back they offered a new reduction, 40%. Both were completely unacceptable.
They are in the very least preying on unsuspecting customers and hitting them with obscene charges without warning or permission.
Update: 01/21/2014
I filed a complaint with Visa and they refunded every penny I requested. Suck on THAT, WMACTL!
