I rec'd a phone call one evening regarding my "unsecure" computer and I hung up on them .The next morning I got another call - the same caller who implored me not to hang up because my computer was at serious risk for viruses etc, and I needed to listen to them. The caller them said he would put his supervisor on to "walk" me through steps to prove my computer was at risk. The "supervisor" then told me to start my computer, & run "eventviewer" to demonstrate all the "errors" that the computer had. this process took about an hour of them talking to me to convince me I needed their help as the computer was so old and the windows xp was expired. All the while they led me to believe they were representatives of Microsoft. Half way through the conversation the pitch for money for the service they were going to provide - to clean up the computer and upgrade it - was made - 3 or 4 levels of pricing were offered - I unfortunately took the highest $512.00 (USD) for a "lifetime" of service that was tranferable to any other computer I might buy in the future. After paying through Google with my visa card (which I have now cancelled) I was asked to allow someone access to my computer - after about 1 - 2 hours he proclaimed the computer cleaned up and protected, but not until he erased the details of the transaction with my visa and the receipt that was sent to my computer. I asked him not to erase these items but he stated he had to to clean up the computer. At the end of the whole process I was given an account number, a phone number, the city that they were calling from,a name of the person I was talking to, and again I was led to believe that I was talking to someone from microsoft. I hung up and after that an icon appeared on the top right hand corner of my computer - a square with a letter in it usually an A,B,C,or D. I called my visa company to try to get the charge stopped but they were unable to help as I was sold a "Lifetime" service and essentially this "company" has a "lifetime" to do something for me.
