I received a telephone call purportedly from Microsoft in Glasgow stating that it had come to their attention that I had some dangerously infected software on my computer. As I was experiencing problems at that time with internet connections I had no reason to believe that the caller wasn't genuine. He gave me the name of Chris Bartlett, 2 UK phone numbers and 2 email addresses, all of which I discovered were fakes.
He offered me continuous Microsoft guarantees for software protection for 3 years for 70+ euros. I told him I had very little money and only had a meagre pension on which to survive.
He then offered me 2 years for 54.00 euros which I foolishly accepted. I then stupidly allowed him into my computer via AMM? to fix the current problems. I watched the cursor going through my files and then he set up a full scan on infected software which took almost 5 hours to complete. It showed no problems. I thought that he'd cleared the problem for me. I am 82 years of age and can't believe that I was so stupid. I daren't tell my family and friends.
