I went into the Shell Gas Station on Bessemer Rd 5/21/2014 I visit this store quite often as it is close my home I have been visiting this store for several years now no complaint. But this time when I went in to purchase a few items I was wowed by a surprise once I got home.First I purchased 7 Black N Milds, 1 Bag of Okie Dokie Popcorn, & 1 Budlight the total came to $9.03 while standing there I noticed the card machine was taking a long time to process my card, so as I made a comment to the Attendant saying your machine is going kind of slow today and just laughed it off. He then stated they had been having a few issues with the machine going slow that day. I didn't think anything of it, so as I was getting ready to leave I remembered I forgot to pick up a few more items so I went and made my second purchase this time I bought a box of matches and a pack of incense this total came up to $2.46 this time the machine went through as normal, so for that day my purchase total came up to $11.49. I went home which took approx. 2 minutes and I checked my debit card statement for the day I noticed I was $77.13 short of what my balance was prior to me going into the shell. I reviewed my statement and saw pending charges that instantly took me by surprise from 5:44pm- 5:51pm the $9.03 was pending charge 5 times and the $2.46 pending charge 13 times. So I contacted my bank to see if this was some sort of error on there part and while they were investigating my balance was still going down while on the phone with them. By the time I got off the phone approx 10 minute conversation the $2.46 charge jumped from 13 times pending to 33 times pending, which made a combined total of $126.33 that was pending on my card for just $11.49 worth of merchandise. My bank suggested that I go to the attendant and address the issue first prior to going through a long process of investigating with my bank. I then went to the store to confront the attendant and before I could finish telling him how they overcharge me he stated I would get my money back on Monday 3/24/2014 this was not acceptable I asked him why did I have to wait that long when it didn't take that long for them to place the pending charges on my card, he stated because their card system merchant was closed. I didn't believe him because when I was there at 5:44 he stated he had to call them because something was wrong with the machine. So within I say a 30 minute time frame they closed? He then started acting very arrogant and rude telling me it was not on him it the card system they use. I asked for a manager he stated he was out of the country I then asked for the asst. manager he stated there wasn't one. So I told him if he didn't give me my money that day I was going to do all I could to make him not make any money for the rest of the day. So all of the customers I saw come in the store I warned them before making purchases from there due to them fraudulently charging my card this massive 126.33. He then states to me he cut shut the machine down that was nobody would be able to use their card. So in my mind I'm going why could you have not done that in the beginning when me and other customers were coming in the store. He still showed any signs of concern. As I was telling another customer there about what happened and to not spend his money he stated he heard the same thing from someone else who experienced what I was experiencing and so did my neighbor. So while I was warning customers I stepped outside to warn more. I came back in the store and asked him to write a paper saying what he told me about me receiving my money on Monday 3/24/2014 he then says it will be Tuesday that really had my blood boiling because there were several witnesses in the store who heard him when I first went in the store that it would be Monday 3/24/2014. He then tried giving me the paper to write out the letter I refused telling him it was his words not mine so he was the one who needed to write what he said as well as sign and date the paper. He wrote down two words and looked up and saw customers waiting in line he then had the nerve to ask me if I would let him help them first then write the paper I told him not. He was still trying to give me the paper so I asked him what was his problem did he not know how to write in english. He then finish writing out the paper and signed it. Today is 3/24/2014 and I still have 4 pending charges of $9.03 and 32 pending charges of $2.46 because the correct 1 time charge of $9.03 was processed and the 1 time charge $2.46. But the other charges are still pending holding my money. he did not provide me with any phone number to the merchant they use just kept saying I'll get my money back on 3/24/2014. If I go through my bank they would have to investigate the charges contact the company and so forth and so on meaning me having to wait longer on receiving the $114.84 owed to me from the correct charges of $11.49 processed on my card from the 126.33 total they took. I am very dissatisfied with this company due to them not showing concern and not taking care of the issue immediately. My issue with the event that occurred that day is if he knew the system was messed up why did he not place any kind of warning up? I know he stated it was having issues all day "after" I swiped my card the first time but he did not make it known as to what kind of issues it was having. I just thought it was lagging kind of slow as the reason for the problem. I have contacted Shell Gas Corporate Customer Service line all they can say is the company is independently owned. I think that it is very bad business for any kind of company to not have an immediate manager they can go to for issues that day. Unless they do and they come up with the excuse of saying he/she is out of the country. I'm not sure what is going on with that store but I am going to make it known to everyone I know who visits this store to NEVER do business with them anymore as well as report them to our local BBB and local news station to do a report on them scamming people out of there money.
