Police say that a 23-year-old male and his friend were threatened this week by three knife-wielding suspects who then robbed them of $3,200 in cash and stole his vehicle.

The complainant had arranged to meet the men to potentially buy a vehicle that was advertised on Kijiji.

Police say the suspects are believed to have abandoned the stolen vehicle before fleeing in a car.

The incident follows a report last weekend of a 23-year-old male being kidnapped at knifepoint in a west Edmonton parking lot and driven to Calgary.

That complainant had also arranged to meet two prospective buyers interested in buying a car he had advertised for sale on Kijiji.

The victim was able to successfully flee from his captors in Calgary and contact police. Two suspects and the vehicle were later located in Red Deer.


Earlier this year, Tim Bosma of Hamilton, Ont., was killed after taking two men for a test drive in the pickup truck he was selling.

Dellen Millard and Mark Smich have been charged with first-degree murder in Bosma's death, and both plan to plead not guilty.

Bosma's charred remains were discovered on a property owned by Millard.

Edmonton police say people involved in such purchases should always meet the buyer or seller in a public place with many people around, and avoid bringing large amounts of cash to a first meeting.
