My Optus mobile account was billed with unsubscribed/unsolicited content services to value of $18.92 @ 6.00 each time x 3 plus some smaller imposts; all in less than a few minutes. To my mind it is Optus who are at fault with these premium SMS scammers. No Premium SMS charges should be permitted without a written authorisation given by the customer to Optus.
Ordanduu provided no services to me. Before I received the Optus account, I had never heard of Ordanduu. There was no authorisation given to Ordanduu to harvest my Optus account. Moreover, despite what Optus may posit, there was no authorisation given to Optus to allow these imposts.
Some years ago I ran a case in The Federal Court of Australia against Vodafone for the same type of offence. Without disclosing how much they share from the harvest, Vodafone settled the case, with costs. In my view more should be done by the Australian authorities to curtail the activities of Premium SMS gougers. As a matter of law, no SMS charges should be permitted without written authorisation first obtained, which sets out precisely what services are being provided for the gouge. I have since asked Optus to place a bar on any further Premium SMS imposts on my mobile.
