Got a notice 24 hrs prior to this incident that my Flash Player needed to be upgraded. Unfortunately, I got maleware, pop-ups, etc. from that, so I logged onto Norton Support to check my Norton Security subscription. I immediately got a phone call, although I hadn't entered my number. The person said they were from Norton and would like to dial into my Mac to see how they could help. As I hadn't entered my phone number, I assumed they had it on file with Norton and were legit. He sounded very professional, showed me everywhere he was going, what he found, and why. He told me my system was in immediate danger of crashing and recommended RiseZone techs to fix it. The cheapest plan was $499 for 5 yr of Norton Security, immediate maleware and Mac optimization, and 5 yr of continued tech support. I paid it, they proceeded to remove the maleware and optimize the Mac, but only gave me a yr of Norton Security, which I now find out is a fraudulent copy. The real frustrating thing is that Norton has given me zero assistance on this despite it being a fairly common occurrence, when I Googled it. i asked Norton to at least extend my subscription. Disappointing that they refused any support and basically tell a 25 year customer to take a hike.
