    • Jayson Roman Complaint / User Submitted Image #36358

A few months ago, I answered an online ad (www.freelancer.com; unfortunately, I no longer have an account there) from an eBay member (Monique54509, who later called himself Jayson Roman in his emails) who had a lot of things to sell on eBay and was looking for someone to do the listings in return for a commission. I agreed to list a watch for him (Item #120784280477) with the agreement that he would do the shipping if it was sold. It sold for $500 very quickly, and since it was from my account, I received the payment from the buyer, kept 30% (after the fees had been deducted), and then sent the remaining 70% ($333.80) to his PayPal account, in accordance with our agreement. On 10/04/11, he reported that he had sent the item.

About a month later, I got an email from the buyer complaining that he had still not received it. I responded and apologized, explaining the situation and promising to try to correct it. I emailed Jayson and reported this to him. I did not receive an answer. I tried to contact him many times, but still no response. Eventually, the buyer opened a case in the Resolution Center (Case #5012474810.) Again, my notifications to Jayson were ignored. I had no choice other than to give him a refund - $528 out of my own bank account! In retrospect, I probably should have appealed the case instead, but it has been closed and there's nothing I can do anymore.

Needless to say, I never heard from Monique54509/Jayson Roman again. However, I recently searched the user name and email address and discovered that this member does still exist. Of course, my attempts to contact him through eBay were no more successful.

I posted a money request on PayPal that went unanswered and eventually called their Customer Service department, but it was no help. I didn't get much help from eBay either. Since the monetary transaction took place outside of eBay, they do not consider it eBay fraud.

Here are the details about the scam. I know that they might not all be accurate, but they are based on the information I have been given -

Name of Scammer: Jayson Roman
Email address: [email protected]
eBay ID: Monique54509
PayPal address: [email protected]
Paypal ID: Samantha bruiser [sic]
(I suspect this is a fraudulent account run by Jayson Roman, although it could also be the name of a go-between. I have emailed both addresses and heard from neither.)
eBay item number: #120784280477
My eBay ID: Rosella62797
Starting Price: $300.00
Final Price: $500.00

Date of sale: 9/24/11 (through Buy It Now)
Buyer's eBay ID: ashmolson
Amount received from buyer: $528.00 (shipping included)
Date of eBay transaction (with buyer): 9/26/11
Paypal transaction ID (9/26): 61X7344252010572S
Date of PayPal transaction (to "Samantha"): 10/03/11
PayPal transaction ID (10/3): #05S32360GD251953E
Reported date of shipping: 10/04/11
Amount of PayPal transaction: $333.80
Resolution Center Case Number: #5012474810
Case opened on: 10/31/11
Refund given (entirely by me): $528.00
Date of Paypal money request: 11/03/11
Amount of money owed: $333.80

I can send you a full record of our email correspondence if you wish, by email or regular mail. I have also saved the invoices.

I am uncertain of the location of Jayson Roman. The listing said that the item location was Illawarra, NSW, Australia (post code 2500) and PayPal records list "Samantha bruiser" as "Non-U.S. - Unverified." However, the eBay profile of "Monique 54509" lists the location as "NY, United States."

If you need any other information, I would be glad to provide it.
