I have been an AXIS Reinsurance customer since mid 90's. I purchased an earthquake insurance policy through a California agent in my home state. The policy included damage to my in-ground spa and surrounding concrete. I paid approximately $6,000 for the policy to date. There was an earthquake very close to my home on 3/21/2011 at a magnitude of 3.3 which resulted in damage to my spa resulting in approximately $24,000 damage. When the claim adjuster came to my home he said that he had to bring in his hired geologist. He said I can get my own if I had $5,000.00. I am 65 years old and unemployed. Their geologist came up, took no soil sample, agreed the remaining water was below the upper jet line, and the broken lines broken resulted in water leaking under the spa and raising the spa...however, their geologist said just the opposite on the report. Note: their geologist was young, inexperienced, and just recently hired by the company. I had to pay $2,000 for another geologist report and the geologist took a land sample and had it analyzed in a lab. This report contradicted the AXIS geologist report and proved the earthquake caused the damage. After going to the state's Department of Insurance and this agency inquired to the AXIS insurance company, the company still denied the claim (knowing I would have to hire a lawyer to get any money from them.) Throughout all of this, I was sending the colored pictures, seismic activity reported and documented, my geologist report, etc. to the AXIS Reinsurance Executive Vice President, Mr. Tom Steidinger, 303 Madison St., Ste. 500, Chicago, IL 60606, (T) 312-977-0305, (F) 312-977-0401. I have the return receipts from Mr. Steidinger's office. I wonder how many other customers this company has scammed.
