Today I looked at my bank account and noticed that I was overdrawn. This shouldn't have happened, so I looked through my past charges and noticed a check for $161. I pulled up the check and saw that it was written out to Atlantic Circulation.

Approximately 2 weeks ago, a couple of high school kids came to my apartment selling magazines. Having been in a similar position many years ago, I listened to their shpiel and then wrote out a check for $61 (sixty one dollars) for a 2-year subscription to Taste of Home magazine. They mentioned nothing about the $15 shipping, and they advised me that someone would call me to verify in the next 48 hours.

Today I pulled up the check that was posted for $161 (ONE HUNDRED sixty one dollars). There was a "1" added to the front of the 61.00, and a "one-" added to "sixty-one even".

I have called my bank and they are currently investigating; I'm supposed to hear back from them within 10 business days. I have no idea whether it was the kids who did this, or someone else at the company, or if this sale was legit on ANY level. But until the bank concludes their investigation, I am out $161 plus the overdraft charge.
