I signed up to ziinga and won a coffee maker, then i received an email stating i had to send in photo id to get my item sent to me.
I looked in the terms and conditions and the id only referred to 'special and promotional' auctions which was not the one i won.
So, i went on the 'live customer help', took over 2 hours to finally clarify that i wasnt gonna get my coffee maker unless i provided the id. I dont like handing out my photo id and i couldnt understand why they would need it considering the credit card payment is verified with the 3D secure process.
I eventually gave up that evening and told the woman to cancel the account, order, everything. She agreed finally and said i wouldnt be charged for anything as i had not completed the 'auction process'.... yeah right !
I got the confirmation email that my account was cancelled and i thought all was good, till i got a letter from my credit card provider telling me that my account was overlimit and i had been charged. I took a look at my statement and sure enough Ziinga had charged me for the coffeemaker AND another charge which i had no idea what it was for.
I contacted Ziinga by email and they emailed back saying i had agreed to their terms and conditions when i had signed up and the extra fee was relevant to a monthly platinum membership charge. I hadnt agreed to any platinum membership and sure didnt think i should be charged for one after i had opened and cancelled my account in under three hours !!
Going back to the site now, i see under the 'purchase bids' theres a line of text that says ' 7 days free platinum membership is included in this package'.... what it doesnt say is, you cant cancel it and if you want to buy 'bids' you have absolutely no choice but to agree to it.
I haven't received any coffee maker, they say i breached my platinum membership so cant receive it.... yet they took my money ;)
I'm currently cancelling my credit card and being reissued with another so Ziinga cannot charge me again next month and i have also requested my provider ask for a 'charge back' from Ziinga because I've paid for an item they have no intention of sending which is breach of the credit card payment agreement between me and Ziinga.... thank god for the 3D secure process when paying for something lol. The credit card provider is also going to try for the 'membership' fees too but thats going to be a tough one to prove as that will be my word against Ziingas about not knowingly signing up to a 3 month minimum membership.
Keep your fingers crossed for me and good luck all !

this was my email to them regarding the charges and also their reply.
elizabeth ayres, Dec-27 22:35 (CET):
To whom it may concern,
as you may see from the forwarded email attached to this I cancelled my
membership the same day after joining. Can you please explain why money was
taken from my credit card despite this ???
My credit card has now gone seriously overlimit due to this and I have
incurred charges !! This is NOT what I was told by your customer service
agent when I cancelled my membership and definitely NOT in your terms and
conditions. I was informed my membership would be terminated immediately
due to your terms and conditions not clearly stating that instead of ALL
auctions need to have proof of I.D your terms only state 'promotional
auctions and special offers'. I never bid on a promotional or special yet I
was informed by email I could not have my item unless I provided proof of
ID of which I have none.
You are keeping my membership open and charging me despite me not wanting
this service at all AND charging me for an item I have cancelled and NOT
received ! Your own terms and conditions state....'
All Platinum memberships come with a 3-month binding contract. Customers
who breach the 3-month binding contract will be charged a cancellation fee
of £ 28.00. Note that cancellation of the contract will void any free
promotional gift offer....'
So, where on earth do you get the idea you can dare charge me £59 ??? I'll
pay the £28 fee but there is no way I will pay for a service I am not ever
going to use and extremely unlikely to recommend to anyone else.
Just to clarify one point on this, i have not used any of my 'membership
benefits' so your terms and conditions which state the following ARE
binding...'As part of our 30-day return policy, refunds must be claimed
within 30 days after the date of sign up. However, users may only be
entitled to a subscription fee refund if they have not used any of their
membership benefits.'
I want a full refund for the money taken out of my account against my
wishes., this amounts to £71.53 for your questionable 'services' and
non-received item plus £12.00 credit overlimit charges OR i will accept a
£28.00 cancellation fee but expect the cost of the non-received item and
the difference between the full charge and cancellation which amounts to
£42.54 .
Should you wish NOT to settle this I will report Ziinga to the British
Virgin Islands Financial Investigation Agency as Ziinga is listed as being
under its jurisdiction and I will be contacting my credit card provider to
inform them that no further transactions are to take place with Ziinga and
also send them a copy of my cancellation email as proof that you are
attempting to acquire funds that you are not entitled to .
As far as i'm concerned the following comes across as an attempt to ensure
I cannot receive any refund or stop you from taking money from my credit
card by making me log back in and 'activating' my account
again.....'However, before the cancellation date of 2012-03-11 there may be
additional charges incurred as part of your three months binding contract
so we encourage you to keep on using your account and consume your
remaining bids and credits....'
I enclose a screenshot of the transactions on my credit card statement
although you can verify this on your own systems, I do not wish to attach a
full version of my credit card statement due to concerns that this
information may be wrongly used by your company.

Dear ecayres
It is to be expected that by using Ziinga, the user accepts the following Terms and Conditions, as well as the manner in which Ziinga operates as described on our website.
Our record shows that you clicked on the radio button agreeing with our terms and conditions when you claim your won auction which prompted our system of your registration as a Platinum member. We have not in any way amended our terms and conditions therefore these information was clearly stated when you claimed your won auction
Regards,
Jayson
