I applied for a local part-time job through Craigslist and received an email response back from someone in HR at Clarke Careers & Partners. I was told I was in line for an interview and needed to complete an on-line profile. No problem. But after I submitted that, I was told they were complying with the Patriot Act and had to confirm my identity and the way they were doing it was through a credit report. I got to the end of the "free credit report" process when I was told to share a credit card that would be charged if I didn't cancel a monthly subscription for credit reports. I have no need for a monthly credit report, so I quit the process and wrote back to the woman who'd contacted me, asking about the legitimacy of this process. Haven't heard back. Guess I'm not getting that job. I also believe Craigslist is fertile ground for these scams.
