My wife unwittingly ordered a book from this company called "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons".

The book was shipped, then she was allegedly sent an e-mail explaining that DiscountBookSale would charge $19.95/month - forever. The "membership" was for some sort of alleged potential discounts on posters, books, and art work on a web site somewhere.

By not cancelling the 7day free membership, we were automatically set up to be charged a fee monthly for the rest of our lives. That is, until today when we woke up and shut this situation down.

We've unfortunately been asleep at the wheel and this charge was mistaken by my wife for another legitimate charge I had for business. My business was re-imbursing me for a different periodic charge. Finally today my wife and I both got things straight, and shut the charges.

We received no value since 4/15/2010, for this "membership" we knew nothing about. The customer service people are clearly trained to deal with the cancellation process, and will offer one month back. I politely expressed my frustration, and was immediately offered a 2nd month back. When I pressed to talk to a supervisor about making the situation right, I was given a chance to speak about my frustration, and was offerred 6 months refund by that individual. While I did accept the 6 months fees back, I'm livid that this business covertly charged my card using a legal opt-in method. I'm frustrated that their process, while legal, is without scruples. They know I'd never used their "membership" for anything, then offered to make things right by giving a 25% portion of the fees back.

While their business may be legal, so is prostitution in Nevada. You make the call whether you feel they made my situation correct, and if their business model is an example to be emulated.
