I was on-line looking for an all inclusive vacation for myself & my 13 yr. old son. I saw Summer Bay Resorts & called. It sounded great & most of all it was affordable. I had two years to use the package & I could choose from four vacation packages, from a trip to Orlando or Daytona, or 3 other cities or finally a Bahama cruise.
Each time I tried to book a trip, a problem, that was not mentioned at the time of purchase, would happen. The first thing was that you needed a major credit card to check into one of their hotels & I only had a debit card, so this then narrowed my options greatly as to where I could go now. I got very upset & I filed a complaint with the better business bureau of central Florida. Not much came from this & I felt very upset as they of course made it seem that I was ignorant for not knowing that I needed a major credit card to check in. They offered me a few places that would accept a debit card, but now my options were very limited.
Unfortunately in December I was diagnosed with breast cancer & had to under-go a bi-lateral mastectomy in February 2010. I had many complications & had to have 11 surgeries throughout the year, plus radiation. So this delayed planning any trips for most of 2010. When the Dr. gave me the OK to travel, I started making calls to Summer Bay to plan a trip. I was then told that they couldn't book anything for my son & I as I wasn't married. I never in my life heard of such a thing. I was furious because this was something else that was not mentioned upon purchasing Summer Bay & I thought it was not even legal to do something such as this. I didn't know where to turn to get any kind of help, even the director or supervisor said he could not help, that those were the rules.
I don't know if you can help me or not, but I wanted to try because I feel very upset & taken advantage of over this whole thing, & it seems like it is a scam. Why should you need a husband to travel? It makes no sense & this was never mentioned to me while I was signing up for what I thought would be a nice vacation.
