Beware, these guys are slick with words, quick with answers and professional with inciting your involvement. Documents they supply look and feel real.
Got called requesting whether I wanted to rent my timeshare in Mexico. No upfront fees by the contract agent. When the escrow company comes into the picture, they have a combination of fees as you progress closer towards getting your money. As they add fees for you to put up front, they incite you by saying that the purchaser has been contacted and deposited the equivalent amount of money so that you will get it back. They explain that it's all about the purchaser looking for tax savings that he is willing to pay the large rental fees and all other outlays. I was approached to pay Mexican government taxes and, transfer fees. Yet, they sent all documents that looked like real government documents, true deposits in escrow accounts from the purchaser and even investigating in the internet, they seem to be on the ball. Discussions by the escrow company and contract agent seemed to difficult to not believe it is all legitimate.
Stay away from the contract agent who solicits you with a rental and/or purchase contract called Platinum Realty Exchange and the title escrow company called American Title Escrow Services. They baited me for thousands of dollars. Funny thing is now there is another company calling me telling me that they can pay me a high price for the selling of my timeshare. Yet when they sent me the contract, customer service guarantee and transfer process, the documents were almost word for word identical between the two different companies. I consider myself a pretty educated person and funny enough got baited into the scam. I guess when you put in some money, you want to not lose it and will put more just to get it back - just like in a Casino.

  • I have been approached by these same two companies, and because I am so eager to sell my timeshare, I have started to believe them! I have the contracts in hand, but have not signed them yet because I am so afraid of being scammed. I have asked them every question I can think of, and tried to figure out what I can do to make them prove that they really have a buyer and that I will get reimbursed for my "transfer fees". Even my attorney looked at the paperwork and said it looks legitimate, but my attorney also said he cannot guarantee that it is, so I have spent the last week trying to figure out how I can verify. It does seem too good to be true, but as you said, they are very good at answering all my questions and the answers all make sense, so I was about to just plunge ahead and believe them. Now I won't. I am so glad I read this!!!!!!!

  • Hello Ihmh, I can show you the type of documents they sent me, all looking legitimate, including documents from mexican government, bank accounts with sums deposited from purchaser/renter, documents stating the amount they have in escrow ready to be paid out to me. You name it, they had it. Yet once you paid what they want, they won't even return your calls or emails. If you want to chat further and exchange some info, contact me at [email protected]

  • Hello Ihmh, glad you got my warnings. I went thru the same checks as you did. They sent me papers that looked legitimate from Mexican government, bank deposits made from the purchaser/renter and statements stating amount held to be released to me as soon as I paid. Once they got your money, they won't return your calls or respond to your emails, even the receptionist plays the game that they are on the phone and will call you right back. Never happened. If you want, contact me at [email protected] and I can give you more info.
    Regards,

  • Hello anonymousRB -- I just e-mailed you. This is really unbelievable.
To add names to your complaint -- the agent at Platinum Realty Exchange that I talked to was Thomas Ford, and the agent at American Title Services was Tony Puccio. (These are probably all false names, and are probably the same people you talked to!)
