I received an e-mail supposedly from the IRS stating it was an urgent notification. The body of the e-mail stated: "Please be informed, that you need to pay a penalty due to your failure to file income tax returns by the deadline that is January 31, 2012. It went on the say that the penalty could be up to $10,000."
The date of January 31, 2012 was my clue that this was probably a scam. So, I took the e-mail to my local IRS Office and was told that the IRS never sends out e-mails for any reason and to report it as a Scam.

- I received the same email and figured it was a scam. The email address was [email protected]. They said that IRS section [6038(b)(1)] determines a money penalty of 10,000 for each [Form 5471] that is filed after the deadline of January 31, 2012. These people are obviously scammers and need to wiped off the face of the earth.
